K’s Catnip Corner Cat Lounge is a free-roaming adoptable cat and kitten lounge operated by K’s Kitten Rescue. K’s Kitten Rescue is a registered rescue with the state of NJ (NJ non profit id 0450583435) and an approved 501c3 organization.

K’s has known that they wanted to host a book club. In the first attempt to organize a book club the biggest obstacle encountered was deciding what book everyone wanted to read. A Silent Book Club solves that challenge.

A Silent Book Club is a group of people that share a love of reading. Unlike a more traditional book club, a Silent Book Club removes the pressure of having to pick a book that everyone has to read. With a Silent Book Club, people join together to read at the same time in the same place, while reading whatever book they like. There’s no pressure to finish by a certain date and no pressure to answer questions. Everyone brings their own book. Books of any type are welcome, including but not limited to print books, ebooks, graphic novels and textbooks. Guests are welcome to use the lounge’s wifi to browse their phone or laptop, or to read from a kindle or tablet.

For the first 30 minutes of a Silent Book Club meeting people can chat. Then there is a one-hour block of time for everyone to read the material of their own choosing while others are doing the same. After the hour is up, people can chat, exchange books, continue reading or head out.

Silent Book Club Toms River hosted by K’s Catnip Corner Cat Lounge is an inclusive space where people ages 16 and up with a shared love of books can connect.

Silent Book Club Toms River gatherings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. A typical meeting will be structured as follows:

6:00 – 6:30pm – People arrive and share what they’re reading
6:30 – 7:30pm – Quiet reading hour
7:30 – 8:00pm – Optional socializing, optional book swap, or just keep reading

Silent Book Club meetings are free to attend. Due to limited space people wishing to attend a Silent Book Club meeting are asked to RSVP in advance. Should the group find the need for more space a second meeting per month can be considered.

While Silent Book Club is free, as nonprofit K’s Kitten Rescue welcomes donations of any amount as they are completely funded by community support.

The cat lounge has seating for approximately 20 people but visitors often find themselves sitting on the floor because that’s where the cats are. Guests of the cat lounge are welcome to use our wifi to browse their phone or laptop, or to read from a kindle or tablet.

We are not a “cat cafe” and do not have a menu or freshly made food. We do offer prepackaged snacks and sealed bottled/canned beverages for a nominal fee of $1. There are also a good number of restaurants in the area if you would like to bring your own food.

K’s Catnip Corner is located in Downtown Toms River at 40 Main Street, Suite 101, Toms River, NJ 08753.

Our space is located in the old bank drive-thru attached to the Executive Building.
The entrance is on the Irons Street side of the building, directly across from the big free parking lot.
When you get to the building there is a keypad on the left side of the door, simply press the bell for K’s Kitten Rescue and someone will buzz you in.
We are on the first floor, just inside the entrance.
