Cat Lounge

K’s Catnip Corner Cat Lounge is a free-roaming adoptable cat and kitten lounge operated by K’s Kitten Rescue. K’s Kitten Rescue is a registered rescue with the state of NJ (NJ non profit id 0450583435) and an approved 501c3 organization.

While foster kittens do not live at K’s Catnip Corner cat lounge, they do visit in order to have the opportunity to socialize with people. All cats and kittens that go to our cat lounge have been appropriately vetted, and the lounge is supervised at all times for the benefit of both cats and humans. Visitors will enjoy spending time relaxing in our cat lounge while getting to know some of our foster kittens. Our cat lounge will host most of our social and fundraising events and can also be reserved for private gatherings.

K’s Kitten Rescue’s past president was Louise Wootton. In the early years of Louise Wootton’s work rescuing kittens and cats, she had a room next to her office at Georgian Court fondly referred to as “The Cat Room,” where she fostered kittens caught on campus and students would come to hang out. It was a sanctuary for all involved.

As time went on and K’s Kittens launched formally as a rescue, much of the operation moved into Louise’s home. If you adopted from the rescue, there was a good chance, especially in the first few years, that you picked up your bundle of fur from her home. If not, you visited one of her fosters to meet and welcome the new member of your family.

Sadly, Louise passed unexpectedly in early 2024. In the aftermath of Louise’s passing, we continued with housing the rescue’s records and supplies in the homes of our board members. It was less than ideal but we made it work.

K’s Catnip Corner is the product of our dream to help the rescue continue to grow and honor the work Louise did. It’s more than a space to store our supplies; it’s a place to find funky cat themed things; a place to hold events to raise funds to support our work, a haven for cats and humans, where you could come for a day to meet some of our cats while you have coffee or do some work. Visitors play a big part in the socialization of our kittens, which helps prepare our kittens for life in their furever homes.

K’s Catnip Corner Cat Lounge is inspired by the “cat room” that Louise Wootton, created on the campus of Georgian Court. In the GCU cat room, students sought and found sanctuary from the day to day demands. Today, our cat room serves that purpose for members of the community who just want a small place to get away to, while also providing an opportunity to help cats and support the rescue. The cat lounge provides a perfect place for those who are unable to have cats to still be able to interact with them. It’s also a perfect place to go if you need a break from working from home.

The cat lounge has seating for approximately 20 people but visitors often find themselves sitting on the floor playing with the cats. We have a small selection of books on hand. We also have a selection of games in the lounge as well. Guests of the cat lounge are welcome to use our wifi to browse their phone or laptop, or to read from a kindle or tablet.

We are not a “cat cafe” and do not have a menu or freshly made food. We do offer prepackaged snacks and sealed bottled/canned beverages for a nominal fee.
